Mike and Ginny Schelkun

Ginny and I grew up in the suburbs of Detroit. We were married in 1963 and came to Rochester in 1965 when I started work at Kodak as a chemist doing new product development. Ginny was a stay at home mom. She volunteered at the Greece Y and was a member of their board for many years. After nearly 30 years at Kodak I took their retirement offer in 1991.
I used my retraining allowance to go to tax school. I did tax preparation for a few years and taught an introductory course. In 1997 my son, Jim, and I bought a business, Empire Radiator Service. I took on back office and marketing responsibilities. We put Ginny to work as office manager. One thing we learned quickly is the only thing you can be sure of is change.
We learned about Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University early in 2006. We took the class later that year to learn better ways to manage our finances. We then became class coordinators and have taught 4 classes to date. In 2007 to gain more understanding and in depth training we attended Dave Ramsey's Certified Counselor Training in Nashville. This is a week long intensive program. We are both Dave Ramsey Certified Counselors. We do this as a ministry and are blessed when helping others solve financial problems or improve how they handle their finances.
We also have a passion for motorcycling. In our spare time we manage to ride 7 or 8 thousand miles a year. As bikers, we are members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. The mission of CMA is to change hearts for Jesus one at a time on the highways and byways. We are also members of The Gold Wing Road Riders Association and are currently Chapter Directors of NY-W, the local Rochester area chapter. Through GWRRA we have traveled extensively and made many great friends.
