Oasis Means

"Oasis"
A dictionary definition of "Oasis" is:
"A fertile spot in a desert or wasteland, created by the presence of water." There are many references to Oasis found in the Scripture!
"A man will be as a hiding place from the wind, And a cover from the tempest, As rivers of water in a dry place. As the shadow of a great rock in a weary land." (Isaiah 32:2)
The nation of Israel was wandering in the desert. They didn't have water to drink and they complained to Moses that they were going to die of thirst.
However, God anticipated their need and provided:
"Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink." (Exodus 17:6)
And there you have it - an Oasis - water in the middle of the desert!
"They will neither hunger nor thirst. The searing sun and scorching desert winds will not reach them anymore. For the LORD in his mercy will lead them beside cool waters." (Isaiah 49:10)
God leads His people to the Oasis! There is also a parallel of the desert in the human condition! That is, sin has cut man off from God! Paul said in Ephesians 2:12 that people are "without hope and without God in the world." In other words, people are dry and empty! The psalmist said in Psalm 63:1: "Oh God, you are my God, I earnestly seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water." When someone comes to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, they pour forth with Living Water!
"Jesus stood and cried out, saying 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.'" (John 7:37-38) Those that were once as dry as a wasteland are now made alive, and all because of:
Jesus Christ! Jesus is the Oasis!
